First Holy Virtue: Chastity

She represents “sexual abstinence.” She stands against anything she views as provocative and will attack it on sight. When she wields her Bow of Chastity, she never misses her mark. The arrows she wields replenish automatically, so she never runs out of ammunition. They’re made of holy energy, and do not suffer lag when traveling underwater. Anyone she spots cheating on their loved one will be struck down by her arrows, and will be killed instantly. If you have a pure spirit, the arrows will not pierce your flesh, and you will be unharmed. The same will also happen if you gave your heart to someone you love, as Chastity will not view your love for that person as inappropriate. If you were corrupted without your content, Chastity has a spell that will purify your mind, body and spirit, giving you the clean slate you were born with. She calls this Purification.

The most potent weapon in Chastity’s arsenal is not her arrows, but her voice. Her Song of Celibacy is very beautiful to listen to. It will drive away all forms of sexual thoughts from all those who hear it. When it’s heard by the Siren of Lust however, it has different results. To her, the song sounds of nails on a chalkboard, and disables her actions. Anyone seduced by her spell is released and ordered to attack the Siren that possessed them. With Lust unable to fight back, her victims gang up on her and weaken her, while Chastity readies her bow. When Lust is no longer able to fight back, Chastity lets an arrow fly, which vaporizes her opponent in a flash of light.

I always had in mind this mermaid would possess a bow. They’re one of my favorite weapons in video games. In the early Zelda series, it’s the bow that ends the game, as Ganon can only be truly slain if pierced by the Silver Arrow. These arrows are well known to be extremely powerful, and can kill every enemy with a single shot, even if they could resist arrows originally. This is because in several cultures, silver is considered a holy element (not to mention to perfect way to finish off werewolves). In the current series, the Silver Arrows have been replaced by elemental arrows, but I kinda like these better. The Light Arrows now hold the honor of defeating enemies instantly. These are also armor piercing! In any case, the bow is one of my favorite weapons.

When Chastity charges up her bow, the arrow at the tip begins to glow. At this point, you must move away from Lust, but only after you’ve weakened her to near death. Chastity will shoot the arrow, and if it hits any part of Lust’s body, Lust will be slain instantly and vanish into a flash of light moments later. Chastity likes to aim at Lust’s heart, which is the source of her power.

To pass Chastity’s test, you must be very brave and have the reflexes of a Jedi. You must first purge your mind of all sexual thoughts, and she will aim her bow straight at your forehead. You must catch this arrow with your bare hands mid-flight before it hits you. Any type of protective headgear is forbidden during this test. You will fail if you dodge or block the arrow. She will view that as you trying not to be killed by the arrow because your mind isn’t cleansed. If you truly did purge your mind, this arrow will not harm you, and will bounce off you harmlessly. If your mind is pure and your focus is sharp, you’ll be able to catch the arrow effortlessly. Show her the arrow you caught to pass this challenge.

Chastity’s bow is modeled after the Angel’s Bow series from Dragon Quest 9. It has small angel wings on the bow, and is among the highest level bows you can acquire.
