Deep into my journey into Kalos, I tangled with Team Flare. Using a newly recruited Fairy type Pokemon, I knocked them over like bowling pins. We battled in various cities until finally concluding at Geosenge Town. Just before I battled Team Flare’s leader, I heard a voice from a closed off room.
“Trainer…the one recruiting those like me…help me.”
I opened the door and found a new Sailor Senshi that I had heard very little about. What I did hear was that it was known to cause great destruction if it was freed. Apparently, Team Flare was trying to release it to destroy the region. They called it Sailor Yveltal. It was restrained in the middle of the room, and she appeared to be suffering.
“Please release me from this chamber,” she pleaded.
“But, won’t you destroy everything if I do?” I asked.
“You have recruited many Pokemon Senshi, and you possess a courageous heart. I’d be honored to join you.”
“Then let’s get you out of here!”
I drew my sword and cut her free. She then floated toward me and patted me on my shoulder.
“Thank you for freeing me. Now, let’s show these guys what happens when you mess with legendaries!”
Both of us pointed our swords at Team Flare’s leader.
Once Yveltal’s type was announced, I decided I would go after the Y version. There has only been one Dark legendary prior to Gen VI (Darkrai), and we needed more Dark legendaries. I didn’t care it was also a Flying type, which it shares with the Murkrow line. As the release date drew closer, Game Freak revealed it was the Destruction Pokemon, and had an ability called Dark Aura, which powers up all Dark moves. It also pack a signature move originally called Death Wing, but Nintendo changed it to Oblivion Wing (which I think sounds cooler and more threatening).
So what kind of weapon do you give to a Pokemon Senshi based on destruction? I could’ve given her the Silence Glaive, but Sailor Saturn already has it, and I didn’t want to use a weapon owned by one of the original Sailor Senshi. Naoko wouldn’t like that. A Reaper’s Scythe would be too hard to use in combat. You’d obviously give her a weapon that kills, so I dug in the Final Fantasy series and uncovered the Deathbringer. This weapon is a Dark Sword, and is usually one of the best of its type in each game it appears in. Random attacks with this sword instantly kill its target. It is also Darkness elemental. This model of this sword comes from the DS port of Final Fantasy 4. I also gave her a cape because I had trouble replicating Yveltal's wings, and making them fit on the picture.
She bears the colors of the Pokemon she's based on, though using the colors of Yveltal's character model rather than official art. Her cape matches Yveltal's mane, and I wanted her to appear flying. I didn't want her to look evil, because after you catch Yveltal, it wants to redeem itself for those it filled during the war in the past. You still shouldn't underestimate it though. She posed as if she's about to unleash Dark Pulse. She also wears stiletto boots to represent Yveltal's bone crushing talons.
Oblivion Wing: Sailor Yveltal flies above her enemy and fires a dark energy beam at her target. She absorbs most of the damage she inflicted. The closer she is to defeat, the more health she steals. She can still use this move even when her energy is full.
Dark Pulse: Sailor Yveltal raises her sword above her head, focusing her dark aura on her sword. Once it's charged, she points toward her targets and fires a shockwave at them. After it does damage, she loses a portion of her health.
Xerneas is next!
